 (2023) Japan-France Artists Exhibition and Art Forum were held at Mediacosmos

The Japan and France Art Exhibition and Arts Forum commemorative lecture, the round-table talk of artists of both countries to commemorate 40th anniversary of Gifu-France association were held from Wednesday, January 17th through Saturday, 20th in 2024 at all people’s gallery on the 1st floor in Mediacosmos. The guests were Sakai Takahiro, Director of Gifu prefectural government, Hashiba masanao, Gifu mayor, Mr.Sugiyama, GIA chairman, Tomoko Ito, Tokyo bureau chief of Sasagawa foundation, Jack Peluno, Negagraphic designer and Mori Hideki, chairman of GWY. They attended opening ribbon cutting ceremony for to celebrate the opening. Artists who exhibited art works were as follows: Usui Chisato, contemporary calligraphy, Jack Peluno, negagraphic, Malchinu Aepuri, photograph, Solveig Sovaju, water painting, Takahasi Michio, oil painting, Hibino Mineko, fashion designer, Katou Tosie, calligraphy, Kawamura Naoe, mino yuzen, Itou Fumio, oil painting.

Memorial lecture - title “a writing brush and sword” given by Christian Polack who is the author of “silk and light” the history of exchange activities between Japan and France, “a writing brush and sword” aerial relationship
between Japan and France, he is a winner of Rejondonul, a distinguished service medal awarded by the government of France. In his memorial lecture Polack referred to painting activities by French and Japanese painters
in the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate and Meiji and Taisyou eras, mutual influence between the two countries. In the round table discussion of artists they talked about current and future activities, involvement to
French culture, role of art. Participants were Jack Beruno, Katou Tosie, Hibino Mineko and Usui Shisato, the coordinator. Several answers to the question of what art is are first art does not need explanation, art is the object
For appreciation, art is subject of learning, art has nothing to add. The role of art is whether the work has something to touch the hearts of the appreciators. Art work does not have one particular answer so what matter is what
each appreciator feels. We are really grateful to the members of Japan and France association in Gifu and visitors to this exhibition.
